Full Node and Gatekeeper

There are two types of nodes on Phala Network:

• Full Node
• Gatekeeper

Gatekeeper will be responsible for processing blocks and Keystore management, playing a crucial role to guarantee the utility and confidentiality of Phala Network. To run a Gatekeeper node, you need

• an SGX-abled device (to be assured that your device is SGX-able, click here)
• a wide-bandwidth and stable network to be 24/7 online
• to stake a certain amount of PHA (on testnet the requirement is 10 tPHA)
• to have a bunch of nominators who trust you with their staking

Same as Polkadot validators, A well-behaved Gatekeeper will gain decent PHA return for himself and his nominators. Yet it could also lead to loss of reputation and PHA if he got slashed for being unconstantly online or being evil. To set up a Gatekeeper node, please follow this guide.

As for running a full-node, it’s much easier and simpler. All you need to do is to turn on your PC or laptop and follow this guide.

Note that both types of nodes will be rewarded in this incentive program. So read the guides now, get a bit warm-up, and prepare yourself ready for the coming rewards.

Stake and Nominate

If you don’t have much time or experience on running nodes, you can be a nominator in the NPoS mechanism. Stake some amount of PHA to Gatekeepers or Gatekeeper candidates you trust, you will automatically receive returns from them once a month. As mentioned above, your return will be related to how well your Gatekeepers behave and how much commission they set. Still, this is leisurely and friendly enough for normal users to contribute to the growth of a blockchain ecosystem.

Converting your assets

You can coin and transfer your own private assets on Phala testnet PoC-1, but now you can convert them from the private to the public or in turn. This will allow you to “hide” your assets at any time you want, and only present them when it’s time to be presented.

Democracy and Council

You can now submit proposals on-chain and apply for the place of Phala Council to further participate in the development of Phala community.

Incentives 

Phala team prepared over 100,000 PHA for testnet Rorschach . The incentive program will be officially launched on UTC 10 am, July 20,
2020.

1. The Awakening of Nodes

WHEN: July 20 — Aug 20

In this quest, you will gain different points for completing different achievements. The more points you have, the more PHA rewards you will proportionally share at the end of this event.
 

Once your node is set up, your points will automatically be computed and displayed on “Awakening Points Dashboard”.

Here is a table indicating the estimated PHA reward for 240 nodes achieving different user cases.
 

2. Test and Claim

WHEN: July 20 — Until next upgrade

Follow the Guide, test the following functions, and 10 PHA will be dropped to your ETH address.

1. On-chain identity identification
2. Private asset converting
3. Stake and nominate
4. Submit a proposal and vote for a proposal
5. Apply council and vote for a candidate

3. Secret Price Guessing Game

WHEN: July 20 — Aug 3

Follow the Guide and use Phala private transfer function to guess the price of BTC/ETH/KSM.

• Time to predict: UTC 10:00–10:30 am each day
• Meaning of transferred mllli: the price of BTC/ETH/KSM after 24 hours.

The ones whose predictions are most close to the real-time price next day will be the winners of the day and win PHA rewards.

4. Master of Guide Writing

WHEN: July 20 — Aug 3

Publish guides or instructional videos online, and PHA reward will be dropped to your address.

Note that your guides should be original by yourself. Plagiarization will derive your rewards from all quests.

5. Artist of Text Art

WHEN: July 20 — Aug 3

Design or create Phala Testnet Rorschach Text Art with online tools. Publish them on Phala forum and your social media, 3 winners will each receive 100 PHA for their talent or popularity.
