Details

Join in for the next chapter in Linera's evolution with Spring 2024 Hackathon. This hackathon is not just a coding challenge, but a deep dive into the potential of Linera's architecture, designed to offer low-latency, end-to-end user interactions, and unprecedented horizontal scalability.

Dig into Linera’s Devnet

  • Learn: Enhance your Rust skills by building smart contracts on the Linera protocol
  • Connect: Participate in workshops and connect with Linera’s engineering community
  • Build: Harness Linera’s microchains for scalable, flexible blockchain solutions
  • Earn: Compete for a share of the $12,000 prize pool

About Linera

Linera is the first user-centric horizontally-scalable blockchain protocol.

Linera relies on the concept of microchains to divide blockspace into an unlimited number of parallel execution threads. Every Linera user is given a microchain where they can hold their assets and propose new transactions (e.g. to transfer assets to other users’ chains). To coordinate their states across microchains, Linera applications rely on asynchronous messages and occasionally on special chains shared between participants.

Because every user has an independent microchain, Linera transactions can run complex computations (e.g. AI inference, privacy computation, and oracles) that may not be possible on a classical blockchain due to blocktime requirements.

Microchains also allow Linera wallets to act as a local data provider and notification provider for Web3 applications. This makes Linera an ideal platform for reactive user interfaces and fast on-chain multi-user interactions (e.g. in games and auction systems).

To provide the best performance, Linera applications are written in Rust for the Wasm VM.

The native Ethereum<>Linera messaging system (under development) will allow Ethereum applications to use Linera as an high-performance execution layer and a reactive data provider for their Web interfaces.

Linera is especially well suited for applications related to:

  • Payments and messaging
  • Publishing social content on-chain
  • Publishing software and running sandboxed code on the “edge” (in the web client)
  • Auction systems
  • On-chain games
  • AI assistants
  • Autonomous agents

Requirments

What to Build

Create a working software application that is built on the Linera SDK, in the Rust programming language, and deployed on the Linera Devnet.

  • Using the Linera SDK is required - building a front-end for an existing Linera application or an application which is not part of the submission itself does not count.
  • As part of the submission, your project should be deployed and tested on the Linera devnet.
  • Linux and MacOS are recommended as Windows is still in testing.

What to Submit

  • Must be open-source and have a URL to a public code repository.
  • Videos uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video and made public.
  • Completed submission form on Devpost before the deadline.
  • Please see the Official Rules for full details.

Prizes

$12,000 in prizes
Prizes paid in cryptocurrency.

Judging Criteria

  • Technological Implementation (40%)
Does the project demonstrate quality software development? Does the project thoroughly leverage linera? How is the quality of the code?
  • Design (20%)
Is the user experience and design of the project well thought out? Is there a balanced blend of frontend and backend in the software?
  • Potential Impact (20%)
How big of an impact could the project have on the Linera ecosystem?
  • Quality of the Idea (20%)
How creative and unique is the project? Does the concept exist already? If so, how much does the project improve on it?
