Since Avalanche mainnet launched on September 21, team’ve bootstrapped efforts to bring new developers onto the platform; Avalanche-X grants, community growth efforts, tutorials and dev tools, and technical programming all kicked into high gear with room for more. To date, MoneyDance, Avalanche’s virtual event merging a hackathon, summit, and demo day all into one streamlined experience, has nearly 200 hackathon participants and over 1,000 summit registrants–with keynotes and workshops from leading industry experts like Sergey Nazarov, Co-founder of Chainlink, Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX, Kendrick Nguyen, CEO of Republic, and more.

Avalanche and Encode Launch Encode Hack Club for Academia

Today, team’re excited to unveil involvement as Gold Partners for a university-focused blockchain hackathon, Encode, one of the leaders in the university hackathon space.

Encode works directly with university societies, clubs, and academics all around the world, including Oxford Blockchain Society, Cambridge Blockchain Society, and Blockchain Society at the University of Washington, to name a few.

The team at Encode are no strangers to running highly-engaging developer events. Specifically with Encode Hack Club, some notable stats: a total of £200K has been given out as prizes to over 100 teams; more than 50% of hackathon finalists featured PhDs on their teams; and $5MM raised in investment rounds by hackathon finishers. Do you have what it takes to win?

Prioritizing Learning and Building for Collective Success

Team want to maximize success for everyone and have worked closely with Encode to develop a hackathon program that works for all skill levels. Here are the challenges:

Create a Tutorial for Avalanche Challenge — $100 x 5

• Create a fixed cap asset on Avalanche
• Create a variable cap asset on Avalanche
• Create an NFT on Avalanche
• Create a subnet on Avalanche
• Create a new blockchain on Avalanche

Build on Avalanche Challenge — $1,500, $1,000, $500 for the top 3 submissions

• Launch a decentralized lending app (e.g., Compound) on Avalanche
• Launch an automated market maker (e.g., Uniswap) on Avalanche
• Port existing Ethereum infrastructure (e.g., Infura) to Avalanche

Launch a Custom Virtual Machine on Avalanche Challenge — $3–5k available in the prize pool based on submission

• Launch a custom virtual machine (e.g., ZK-SNARKs, BTC Script, WASM)
